Hermann Alexander Schloffer (born May 18, 1868 in Graz , † January 21, 1937 in Prague ) was an Austrian surgeon and university professor in Innsbruck and Prague .

Hermann Schloffer was born as the eldest son of the politician and lawyer from Graz Alois Schloffer (1833–1911) and Wilhelmine "Minna" Schloffer, née. Lenk (born January 29, 1845 - † May 28, 1883). He was the brother of Arnold Schloffer (born November 9, 1870; † April 12, 1931) and Frieda Gross (born May 12, 1876 in Graz; † December 12, 1950 in Bosco-Gurin ). Schloffer, the wife of the Austrian psychoanalyst Otto Gross .

From autumn 1878 Hermann Schloffer attended the I. kk state high school in Graz, which he graduated with the Matura in July 1886. In 1886 he began studying medicine in Graz, which he finished there - interrupted by three semesters at the University of Freiburg - and where he received his doctorate in July 1892. During his studies he became a member of the Arminia Graz fraternity in 1887 and a member of the Alemannia Freiburg fraternity in 1893 .

From 1903 to 1911 he was full professor of surgery at the University of Innsbruck, from 1911 to 1918 at the German kk Karl Ferdinand University in Prague and from 1918 until his death at the German University in Prague.

Schloffer introduced in 1906 as the first Transsphenoidal resection (removal by the sphenoid pass) of a pituitary - tumor from it in, inter alia, the nasal septum removed and nasal turbinates. When he died two months later, the autopsy showed that a large part of the tumor had remained. 1913 described Schloffer an orbital roof -Teilresektion for the treatment of visual impairment in turricephaly .

The Schloffer tumor is named after Hermann Schloffer .

His grave is in the Volschaner Cemetery in Prague.
