Alois von Anreiter

Alois von Anreiter (born June 16, 1803 in Bozen , † September 30, 1882 in Vienna ) was an Austrian miniature painter .

Life

Alois von Anreiter came from a poor background and worked from 1816 to 1825 in a shop. But he was driven to art, and so he gave up the business. He began to devote himself to art, where he found no support. At first he dealt with oil painting , but because of his health he was forced to switch to miniature and watercolor painting . From 1851 to 1853, the new Austrian Art Association, of which he was a member, exhibited some of Anreiter's works.

Von Anreiter also wrote some essays on art for Ludwig August Frankl von Hochwart's Sunday papers . On September 30, 1882, he died at the age of 79 in Vienna. There the Anreitergasse was named after him in 1956 .

Von Anreiter was known for his portraits of famous people, especially nobles. He portrayed the Count and Countess Bombelles , the Count and Countess Széchenyi , the Archbishop Othmar van Rauscher , the Comtesse Podstatzki-Lichtenstein , the Count Hardegg , the Countess O'Donnell , the Countess Pankofska and a group of children.
