Joachim Bennek

Joachim Bennek (born April 27, 1937 in Leipzig ; † November 5, 2019 ) was a German doctor and pediatric surgeon .

Life

Joachim Bennek moved into 1955, the University of Leipzig to human medicine to study. He graduated after five years and was based on his dissertation to different chemical structure of the thoracic and abdominal aorta in cattle and horses in the aging procedure for Doctor of Medicine doctorate . In the next period he was an assistant doctor at the Zwickau hospital from 1961 to 1963 . Then he was in this position at the Leipzig St. Elisabeth Hospital. At the University Clinic for Pediatric Surgery, he trained to become a specialist, so that in 1967 he became a specialist for pediatric surgery. 1970 his doctorate B for pediatric surgery took place at the university ; his dissertation was called the results of the central venous pressure and the physical circulatory analysis according to Broemser-Ranke during surgical interventions in childhood .

After Bennek had been issued his teaching qualification in 1972 , he worked the following year as a senior physician at the pediatric surgery university clinic. In 1975 he finally received a teaching position at the university in this area. In addition, from 1983 he headed the department for neonatal surgery and emergency medicine and was deputy pediatric surgery clinic director. The university promoted him to associate professor in 1989. In 1992 he began his work at the project office for surgery / quality assurance at the Saxon State Medical Association , which continued until 2007 . Two years later he was appointed full professor and attended the university council , the latter until 2002.

In the period from 1995 to 1997 Bennek also acted as acting director of the pediatric surgery clinic. Subsequently, he held the office of an actual director. He retired in 2004 and has been a freelance pediatric surgeon at the HELIOS Vogtland Clinic in Plauen since then .

Bennek was a member of the German Society for Pediatric Surgery from 1986 , served on the company's board of directors and, from 1992, the German Society for Surgery . From 1998 he belonged to the German University Association and from 2000 was a corresponding member of the Austrian Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery. He was also a board member of the Osteological Systems Working Group , founded the Institute for Child Implantology with others, was a member of the scientific advisory board of several specialist journals and other committees.

Act

Bennek was considered to be "one of the most prominent German children's surgeons", and his "continued commitment, his dynamism and his steadfastness at the operating table" were praised. He introduced cardiorespiratory monitoring into practice, which enabled him to reduce child mortality. He dealt with the ability to operate, the time of the operation, with anesthesia and surgical stress and with the therapy of sick newborns. He also made advances in pediatric traumatology , where he followed a functional-dynamic treatment method. He was and is committed both professionally and professionally. During his professional career he gave around 500 lectures, contributed to 162 publications and contributed 34 articles to books.
