Aloysius Jan Hubert "Louis" Bartels (born November 19, 1915 in Venlo , Limburg province ; † January 16, 2002 ibid) was a Dutch politician of the Katholieke Volkspartij (KVP), who was State Secretary for several years .

Life

After attending the Roman Catholic high school Sint Thomas College in Venlo, Bartels completed a degree in economics at the Catholic Business School Tilburg , which he graduated on February 26, 1942. After the end of the Second World War he was first between 1945 and 1947 an employee of the medical and health service of Tilburg and then from 1947 to May 1952 second secretary of the national federation Wit-Gele Kruis , an organization for the care of sick people in Utrecht . During this time he received his doctorate on December 14, 1950PhD in economics at the Catholic Business School in Tilburg with a dissertation on the subject of Bijdrage tot ordening van de maatschappelijke gezondheidszorg in Nederland . In May 1952 he became director of the newly established Catholic National Office for Psychiatric Health Care in Utrecht and held this office until September 1963.

On September 3, 1963, Bartels was appointed State Secretary for Public Health in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Public Health ( Ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Volksgezondheid ) by Prime Minister Victor Marijnen . He also held this position in the subsequent government of Jo Cals and in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jelle Zijlstra until April 5, 1967.

After leaving the government, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Orange-Nassau on April 17, 1967 . Subsequently, Bartels became involved, among other things, as a member of the board of trustees of the Catholic Business School Tilburg, of which he was chairman until May 1973, and as chairman of the hospital commission. Professionally he was still active as chairman of the Sint Jozefziekenhuis in Eindhoven and the psychiatric institutions Sint Anna and Sint Servaas in Venray .
