The Alpine Spring Minimize ( Minuartia gerardii ), and Gerard-Minimize or Alpine Minimize called, is a flowering plant in the family of the Pink family (Caryophyllaceae).

Vegetative characteristics

The alpine spring chickweed is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 2 to 5 centimeters. The furrows between the foliage leaf nerves are as wide as the nerves or wider. Sterile clusters of leaves are usually missing.

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from June to August. Usually one to five, rarely up to seven flowers stand together in terminal inflorescences. The flower stalk becomes about 5 to 15 (20) mm long. The hermaphrodite flowers are radially symmetrical with a double flower envelope. With a length of 4 to 5 millimeters, the white petals are usually slightly longer than the sepals. The anthers are purple in color.

The seeds are rarely 0.5 to usually 0.7 to 1 millimeter in diameter, with more or less pointed papillae, these about as long as they are wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

This somewhat lime-loving plant prefers lawns and rock corridors as a location. It occurs in plant communities of the Seslerion Association and in the Elynetum; nationwide it is a Carici-Kobresietea class character. In Austria scattered to often in all federal states except Burgenland and Vienna in the subalpine to alpine altitude level and (washed down) montane.
