alpha jazz

alpha-Jazz (until 2014 Jazz or never! ) is a series of programs aimed at presenting jazz music , which has been broadcast on German television since 1999, initially on BR-alpha and since June 2014 on the successor channel ARD-alpha .

Jazz or never! was broadcast for the first time in Germany on October 24, 1999 on BR-alpha. The series has a fixed slot that shows recordings of festivals and concerts every second Sunday at 8:15 p.m. a. from the International Jazz Week Burghausen . The show included concert recordings by Dianne Reeves , the Dutch Swing College Band , Otis Taylor , Maria João & Mario Laginha , Esbjörn Svensson , Rebekka Bakken , Erika Stucky , Richard Galliano , Billy Cobham , Nigel Kennedy , Zap Mama , Barrelhouse Jazzband , Carla Bley , Wolfgang Haffner , Greg Osby , Jamie Cullum and Paul Zauner . In addition, archive recordings are presented, including a. of the NDR Jazzworkshop or from jazz - heard and seen , for example by Peter Brötzmann with Fred Van Hove , Han Bennink or Sonny Sharrock , Bill Laswell and Ronald Shannon Jackson .
