Alphonse Bernoud
Alphonse Bernoud , actually Jean-Baptiste Bernoud (born February 4, 1820 in Meximieux , † November 24, 1889 in Lyon ) was an early French photographer who mainly worked in Italy.
Bernoud's work in Italy extended essentially to the years 1840 to 1873 and was extremely successful. He was appointed court photographer of the Bourbons in Naples and then of the House of Savoy. He was also allowed to document the earthquake in Basilicata in 1857. Achille Mauri took over Bernoud's studio. Bernoud's work can be found in important collections such as the Musée Nicéphore-Niépce and the National Portrait Gallery . The Musée d'Orsay dedicated an exhibition to him in the spring of 2009.
