history

The Germans Amphibolin works by Robert Murjahn were in 1895 by Ernst Murjahn in Ober-Ramstadt (now Hesse founded). As early as 1885, the Hamburg trading company Ernst Murjahn & Sohn , which belonged to Robert Murjahn's brother Eduard and his father Ernst, had acquired mining rights for manganese in the Odenwald , but only the hornblende minerals ( calcium amphiboles ) belonging to the amphibole group were discovered during test drilling . In 1889, Eduard Murjahn signed the first contracts for the promotion of amphibole and began to test methods for processing this mineral for color production.

After Eduard Murjahn founded Eduard Murjahn's Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke in Ernsthofen (today a district of the Modautal community ) in the Odenwald to process the hornblende , the family moved to Ober-Ramstadt in 1895 and founded the Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke von Robert Murjahn . Robert Murjahn had developed a plastering powder based on lime and chalk in 1894, which was now produced in Ober-Ramstadt and marketed under the name Murjahns plastering paint powder . In 1901 the production of powder paint from glued chalk began, which is sold under the name Alpinaweiß from 1909 . 1928 developed Robert Murjahn, the founder's son Robert Murjahn and active since 1926 in the company, the emulsion binder Caparol (the name was made up of the main components Ca be , par affine and Ol eum , (a Chinese wood oil) together). This new product was the basis for the emulsion binder technology now emerging in the painting trade. From 1936 onwards, an acrylic dispersion was used instead of oil at Caparol.

In the 1950s, the company introduced numerous new products. In 1953 the gloss coating agent Capaplex is brought onto the market, in 1956 Murjahn's latex paint , the first ready-to-paint dispersion latex paint . In 1957 Disbon GmbH was founded in Ober-Ramstadt , responsible for marketing the range of tinting colors under the name AVA . The Disbon GmbH marketed from 1963, the exterior paint Duparol . In 1966, the Austrian was Perg -based Synthesa taken. In the 1960s, DAW rose to become the largest paint manufacturer in Germany. In the following period the DAW presented other innovations, including the color mixing system Alpinacolor , acrylic paint Capacryl and the silicate color assortment Sylitol . In 1973 Robert Murjahn died, his son Klaus Murjahn took over the management of the DAW. In the 1980s, the DAW sales system was modernized. To this end, the company founded Capatect Dämmsysteme GmbH & Co. Energietechnik KG in Ober-Ramstadt in 1981, which is responsible for the marketing of insulation and plastering systems .

In 1983, Alpina Farben Vertriebs GmbH & Co. KG was founded, which sells Alpinaweiss color products for the home improvement market. In 1984 the new logo of the striped elephant was introduced for the Caparol colors, which today represents the company emblem for the entire group. The group restructuring was completed in 1989, and since then DAW has been a holding company for the sales companies Caparol ( also founded in 1989 as Caparol Farben GmbH & Co KG , responsible for the professional paint market for everything to do with Caparol emulsion paints), Capatect, Disbon and Alpina. In 1990 Fries-Burgholzer GesmbH , a manufacturer of mineral plasters, based in Perg, Austria, was taken over. In 1992 the Berlin-based Treuhandanstalt took over Lacufa AG , which is also active on the Russian market. In 1995 the Caparol subgroup took over Alligator-Farbwerke GmbH & Co KG . In 1996, Europe's most modern emulsion paint factory went into operation at the main factory in Ober-Ramstadt. 1400 tons of paint are produced here every day, and 2000 tons at peak times. This makes this system one of the largest in the world. In 1998 the Swedish paint factory AB N. Haglund Färgindustri was acquired. A new sales concept was introduced from 2000 and the formerly independent lines Caparol , Capatect and Disbon were combined to form the sales subsidiary Caparol Farben Lacke Bautenschutz . In the years that followed, the company became increasingly international, and production facilities were opened in Russia, Italy, France and the PR China.
