The hut was opened on August 28, 1897 by the Schwaz Alpine Club, founded in 1884, but then abandoned in favor of the (new) Kellerjochhütte  ( 2237  m above sea level ) built in 1908 above the ridge . It was one of the first mountaineering huts in the area and at the time naturally a self-catering hut. It is made of stone masonry and had a room with a stove and a warehouse.
