Old weights and measures (Netherlands)
Until the introduction of the metric system by Napoléon Bonaparte , there was no uniform system of measurements and weights in the Netherlands , only the names of the units were universal. As a result of colonialism , some of the units spread to other parts of the world, for example in South Africa.
A law of August 21, 1816 introduced the French system of measures and weights. The names have been adapted to the national language. The length measurements were binding from 1821.
