Old customs
The Alte Zolln is a listed building in Lübeck .
The house on the corner of Mühlenstraße and An der Mauer (today's address: Mühlenstraße 93-95), which was built at the end of the 16th century in place of an older previous building , originally consisted of two eaves houses with a shared roof structure and a side stepped gable facing the wall in Renaissance style -To form.
The building, which was located directly next to the inner mill gate , which was demolished in 1861 , was mentioned in a document in 1594 as De olde Tollbode ( Low German for the old customs house ); the name apparently taken over from the older predecessor building presumably referred to the fact that it was the home of the customs officer. In the Lübeck Niederstadtbuch on March 16, 1649, the name The old customs is documented.
At the turn of the 18th to the 19th century the house was renovated; the renaissance gable on the wall was preserved, but the facade facing Mühlenstraße was redesigned in a classical style. At an unknown point in time and under circumstances that are no longer comprehensible, a 16th century terracotta figure of a wild man was set in a niche above the entrance door , which comes from a decorative frieze of the outer Holsten Gate , which was broken off in 1855 .
Since 1956, the Alte Zolln has been in danger of collapsing. In 1966 the exterior of the building was listed as a historical monument. A restaurant of the same name has been located in Altes Zolln since 1972 . The current state of the structure is the result of a thorough renovation in 1980 and 1981.
