from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old Jewish cemetery Offenbach am Glan is a cemetery in the local community Offenbach-Hundheim in the district of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate . It stands as a cultural monument under monument protection .

The Jewish cemetery is located northwest of the village in the Oberster Frimschenberg district. The terrain, which is sometimes very steep and difficult to access, is located on a slope in a forest.

On the 2355 m² cemetery, which was laid out around 1739 and was occupied until around 1890, there are around 100 gravestones (according to other sources, there are around 30 fragments) as well as fragments and base fragments. The oldest tombstone that can be dated is from 1755. The cemetery is surrounded by a 210 meter long wall.

The condition of the cemetery is reported: The cemetery is apparently not maintained and left to nature. The surrounding wall, originally made of stone slabs loosely, has crumbled in many places. At the former entrance gate on the north side there are still two sandstone goal posts . The gravestones are spread over the sometimes very steep terrain. Only a few gravestones are still standing, many are lying flat on the ground. The weathering process of the sandstone tombstones is well advanced. Traces of excavations can be clearly seen in several places.
