from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish cemetery Gries is a closed cemetery in the local community Gries (Pfalz) in the district of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The Jewish cemetery is located about 500 meters northwest of the local development in the area of the "Judengraben" corridor.

There are no more gravestones on the 1230 square meter cemetery, which was laid out around 1700 and was probably occupied until 1824 .

The cemetery served the Jews in Steinbach am Glan , Brücken , Börsborn , Nanzweiler , Haschbach , Bettenhausen and Waldmohr as a burial place. It was fully occupied by 1824 and was closed. Instead, a new cemetery was created in neighboring Steinbach . Today nothing is left of the entire cemetery complex. There is an orchard on the site. The field name “Judengraben” has been preserved as a reminder of the cemetery.
