history

The old town hall (address: Marktplatz 12) was built in 1577 with three floors, an internal structure made of wood and originally a gable roof . Since there was a town hall in every country town of the Hochstift Würzburg that served as a department store, it is likely that there was a previous building at the same location before 1577.

A gable collapse in 1725 made it necessary to renovate it in 1729. A new gable was installed and the gable roof was converted into a hipped roof . Another renovation carried out in 1825, during which a hipped roof, a bell tower and a classicizing triangular gable were attached to the front, gave the old town hall its present-day appearance. In 1923, the industrialist Anton Kliegl , who was born in Kissingen and has since moved to New York, donated a conference room with wood paneling and stucco ceiling on the second floor of the Old Town Hall .

From 1878 to 1900 a post and telegraph station was housed in the building. When it could no longer meet the requirements, a new post office was opened at Ludwigstrasse 20 .

After the old town hall had temporarily not served as the seat of the Bad Kissingen city administration from 1818 to 1865, it finally moved to today's New Town Hall (formerly Heussleinscher Hof) in 1928 . The old town hall was extensively renovated between 1989 and 1991 . Since then it has served as a community center and exhibition space.

After the Bad Kissingen tourist information office moved to the arcade building on Good Friday 2016 , the establishment of a vinotheque in the old town hall was announced. In order to avoid idling in the old town hall until the opening of the vinotheque, an art exhibition was held in its rooms. On March 17, 2017, the Heiligenfeld Kliniken signed a lease agreement with the city of Bad Kissingen to operate a vinotheque in the Old Town Hall from autumn 2017. On November 25, 2017, the vinotheque in the Old Town Hall was opened.
