The old town hall at Hauptstraße 41 in Künzelsau is the former town hall .

The building in the Franconian half-timbered style was built in 1522 after a fire disaster and housed the city administration until 1989. At times it was also used for other purposes, e.g. B. as a market hall . Today the city ​​library is housed there.

A stone slab on the building bears the inscription "IN DISEM 1522 JAR DIS TOWN HALL HAS BEEN BUILT FROM A NEW ONE."

The north side of the old town hall is adorned with the coats of arms of the six heirs of the city and with a medallion of the Künzelsau city arms, on which the head of John the Baptist is depicted. Another stone slab shows two coats of arms over a year.

Surroundings

It can be assumed that there was a town hall in Künzelsau from around 1400. It is unclear whether this previous building stood in the same place as the current old town hall. The main street, the central axis of the old town, follows the course of the Künsbach , which is largely ruined today and flows through here under the old town hall. The old town hall, which is somewhat decentralized along the street, divides the square-like wide area of ​​the main street into a northern and southern part. At the beginning of the 21st century, an architectural competition for the design of its surroundings was announced, in 2009 the renovation measures were completed.
