The Künsbach is a stream in northern Baden-Württemberg, 7.4 km long from the source furthest from the mouth, which flows into the Kocher from the left and south in Künzelsau in the Hohenlohe district . Its longer right upper course is called Bauersbach , its left Herrenbach .

geography

course

The Künsbach arises on the Hohenlohe plain south of the Kocher valley cut near Künzelsau by the union of two source brooks, the left Herrenbach and the longer right Bauersbach , which runs between Künzelsau - Haag in the southwest and Kupferzell - Künsbach in the northeast at about 347  m above sea level. NN flow together. The young brook then runs north and, like the Bauersbach before, is initially the border between the Künzelsau district on the left and the Kupferzells on the right.

Already flowing in a clear hollow at the beginning, the brook deepens more deeply. At the breadth of Künzelsau- Gaisbach on the left and Künsbach on the right edge hill, the forestation of the increasingly steep valley begins, which then meanders to the right and here receives an inlet from the right towards Künsbach, which itself passes through a valley before it enters the valley very short and steep blade runs down.

Then the Künsbach flows, now entirely within the Künzelsau district, to the northwest and through a valley that widens slightly at the bottom. On the first part of this north-western run it sometimes dries up. The slope of Bergstocks Schippberg on the left remains wooded, but the southwest slope Sonthalde on its right is now quite high up, shows some stone bars and is largely covered with orchards. At the first houses in Künzelsau, the brook flows under the spur of the Wartberg on its right from the south-southwest of the Kemmeter Bach (also Geißbach ), after which it runs north to the Künzelsau core city.

Already next to the cemetery immediately south of the old town, it disappears in a canal, which then runs straight through under the main street, which has been widened like a square. At the north end of the main road in front of the bridge of the federal road 19 , the Dole is then moved a little to the west. The stream then flows out of her below the weir at the fire station at around 210  m above sea level. NN from the left and south into the cooker .

The inner city of Künzelsau lies on the roughly triangular, roughly one kilometer deep and about as wide estuary of the Künsbach on the river.

Old railway line

View up the valley in the direction of Haag a little above the Künzelsau outskirts.

The meanwhile dismantled former Kochertalbahn from Waldenburg via Künzelsau to Forchtenberg used the gentle slope in the Bachklinge for the descent from the Hohenloher level into the Kocher valley near Künzelsau. She followed the brook from Haag (initially the Herrenbach ) to the cemetery in the south of Künzelsau. The route can still be clearly seen in nature; field and cycle paths run along it today.

Catchment area

The Künsbach has a catchment area of 10.7 km². From about the Bauersbach origin in the very south-east to the Weberschlag in the forest south-west of Künzelsau-Taläcker in the north-west, it stretches for about 7 km, while perpendicular to it it is mostly less than 2.5 km wide.

From the northernmost point of the catchment area at the mouth, the watershed stretches southeast over the Wartberg- Sporns to around Etlinsweiler. On the other side of the river Kocher competes on this section, first on the other side of the Wartberg spur , and then one after the other its upward tributaries Morsbach and Etzlinsweiler Bach . During a short southerly run of the catchment area border then drains on the other side of the Baierbach also to the Kocher. Then the border turns to the northwest, runs through Künzelsau- Haag and Gaisbach , which in the other part drain further downwards over the Kupfer to the Kocher; the immediate competitors are their right tributaries Lietenbach and Kuhbach . Before the western tip of the catchment area, the trout stream runs to Niedernhall and into the Kocher. Beyond the short northwestern watershed back to the Künsbach estuary, only smaller sloping streams flow to the river.

About a third of the catchment area is forested, the forest areas are mainly in the north and on the slopes of the blades, to a much smaller extent they form small forest islands on the plateau, the largest of which is the Herrenholz between the two source streams. Arable farming dominates the fields.

The highest point of the catchment area is located on its northwestern tip, a little southwest of the Künzelsauer (heights -!) Residential area Taläcker at 410  m above sea level. NN , a little lower is 402  m above sea level. NN its southeastern tip. Hardly ever on the entire plateau south of the Kocher valley does the terrain go below 370  m above sea level. NN . His with about 210  m above sea level. NN lowest point is at the mouth.

Sparse summer inflow from the Erhard spring, outflow from the Künsbach to the right

Origin of the Künsbach through the confluence of the right Bauersbach and the left Herrenbach about halfway next to the road K 2372 between Kupferzell - Künsbach and Künzelsau - Haag at about 347  m above sea level. NN .

  • Longer source stream Bauersbach , from the right, 2.883 km. Arises about 0.7 km southeast of the Künzelsau hamlet of Etzlinsweiler at the junction of a dirt road from the low-level road Kupferzell -Rüblingen-Künsbach at about 393  m above sea level. NN . Flows consistently next to paths and roads, in the lower half on the northern edge of the Herrenholz .
    • Inflow from the direction of the Etzlinsweiler Haselhöhe , from the right at the Herrenholz edge to about 363  m above sea level. NN , 0.544 km. Arises at about 386  m above sea level. NN . Ditch accompanying the dirt road.
  • Shorter source stream Herrenbach , from the left, 1.714 km. Arises in the Töbele field south of Herrenholz at about 377  m above sea level. NN . Passes the eastern edge of Haag and merges with the Bauersbach in the direction of the flow of the Künsbach .
  • Inflow from the direction of the hamlet of Künsbach, from the right at the north-west turn of the blade, which is also wooded here on the ground, at 306.1  m above sea level. NN , 1.537 km. Arises on a dirt road branch in the Birk east of Künsbach at about 385  m above sea level. NN . Accompanying it until entering its own short blade.
  • Small tributary from the Erhardsquelle natural monument on the slope of the Schipperberg , from the left, very short. A few meters down this inlet is another spring on the creek bed.
  • Kemmeter Bach or Geißbach (!), From the left between the valley path of the federal road 19 on the left slope and the Wartberg in the east at around 240  m above sea level. NN , 1.84 km. Arises across from the shooting range west of Taläckerstraße at about 366  m above sea level. NN and after passing the residential area Gaisbacher Rank turns north with his blade entry.
  • The brook then disappears next to the cemetery on Gaisbacher Strasse in a hollow and runs through the town center of Künzelsau under the main street .
  • Exit of a flood relief channel, to the left approximately at the confluence of Kirchgasse and Hauptstraße, about 0.2 km. The canal runs in a straight line to the Kocher and flows a few steps below the Künsbach itself.

The mouth of the Künsbach in Künzelsau under the weir at the fire station from the left and south into the Kocher at about 210  m above sea level. NN . The stream is 4.471 km long from the confluence of its source streams, 7.354 km from the source of the longer Bauersbach and has a catchment area of 10.717 km² behind it.

Localities

The left upper course touches Künzelsau- Haag . Otherwise there is only Künzelsau itself on the course, which the stream crosses on its last strong kilometer. The district of Kupferzell (tongue tapering northwest around Künsbach ) borders on a relatively long section to the south and west of this hamlet on the source stream Bauerbach and relatively shorter on the Künsbach itself.

Landscape image

Almost a third of the catchment area is forested. Forests are extensive on its northern edge and on the slopes of the Muschelkalkklingen, a few isolated forest areas also on the hilly plateau, including by far the largest is the Herrenholz between the two source streams. The mouth of the stream to the left of the Kocher is urban area. In the open country on the plateau, the field clearly dominates the meadow farming.

geology

The two source streams of the Künsbach begin their course in the Quaternary loess sediment , which lies on the flat peaks of the Hohenlohe plain , and then soon enter the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ) that is otherwise lying on top of this . Around its confluence, the rest of the valley section begins in the Muschelkalk , initially for a long time in the Upper Muschelkalk , in which the blade is also used, before the first houses in Künzelsau, then in the Middle and with the entrance to the valley bay to the Kocher Valley, briefly in the Lower Muschelkalk , after which it is in Downtown area also briefly runs through the flood sediment of the cooker.

In the rest of the catchment area, the layers of the Keuper edition dominate on the plateau, and apart from the Künsbach, there is a noticeable valley cut in the shell limestone only in the edge of the Kemmeter Bach.

The Upper Muschelkalk in the catchment area is heavily karstified . On the left edge above the upper blade in the Gaisbacher Gewann Etzweide there is a funnel doline with a ponor in the Lettenkeuper. In the Häsleswald between the hamlet of Künsbach and the Wartburg-Sporn, above the right shoulder of the blade in the border area between Lettenkeuper and Upper Muschelkalk, there are smaller funnel-shaped dolines with a ponor in a trench-like large dolphin.

Construction work

According to a local council report in the Hohenloher Zeitung from February 2012, the ruddering of the brook in the center of Künzelsau was renewed to a little north of the town hall; At that time it was also known that the section of the Verdolung canal that followed below was also dilapidated. A necessary renovation at a cost of over half a million has now been discussed in the local council.
