history

Coat of arms over the door

The building served as the electoral toll and salt office in the late 17th century . In the 18th century it was inhabited by Franz Anton von Schmöger . The later caretaker administrator and caretaker administrator came to Friedberg in 1717 and was raised to the imperial nobility status by Emperor Charles VII in 1744 . His coat of arms is attached above the door and shows a lion with a mace in the shield at the top left and bottom right . In the fields at the top right and bottom left there are three white lilies each. Another golden lion with a morning star serves as a helmet ornament . In the second half of the 18th century, the house was inhabited by the Lechner family of watchmakers (it is still called the Lechnerhaus today). Mathäus Lechner was mayor of the city of Friedberg. After his death, the building was purchased by the brewer and member of the state parliament, Joseph Schweyer. In 1854 he left it to the poor school sisters, who used it as a girls 'school and nurses' home until 1904/05.

The Madonna figure in the niche above the door is a copy of the so-called Town Hall Madonna by Johann Caspar Öberl from 1745.
