Old town hospital

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old town hospital was a listed building in the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) . The hospital was established in 1847, but was based on a patrician house from 1727 by Hieronymus Hau .

At its core it is a summary of probably late Gothic houses, the facade of which was renewed in the middle of the 18th century. The dwelling had a curved gable with a triangular closure and seven window axes . A special feature was the basket arch portal with the star-shaped double door. In the stairwell there was a wooden parapet made of square balusters . In the first upper castle there was a room with an oval ceiling mirror over corner consoles.

On December 7, 1962, the city council's foundation council decided to demolish the property with the address Vogtstraße 6 and to award the planning for a new building. The hospital foundation, which used to care for the poor, needy and sick people and pilgrims, now only serves as a nursing home.

The demolition of the historic building took place in the course of the so-called old town renovation , a nationwide urban planning pilot project. Numerous historical buildings were demolished during the German economic miracle . The new building is a modern concrete building that has been expanded several times.
