Alwar ( Hindi : अलवर , Alavar ) was one of the princely states of the Rajputs in what is now Rajasthan ( British India ), named after the capital of the same name .
history
The princely state was founded in 1771 by Pratab Singh, the leader of the Naruka clan of the Kachwaha - Rajputs . This was the son of Rao Mohabat Singh of Macheri from the dynasty of the princes of Amber / Jaipur . The Mughal Mughal Shah Alam awarded him the title of Rao Raja in 1791 . Mangal Singh was promoted to Maharaja by the British in 1889 .
