Alyangula is an Aboriginal settlement on Groote Eylandt , about 600 kilometers east of Darwin and about 40 kilometers from mainland Australia in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern Territory , Australia . The place is a miners' settlement with about 900 inhabitants.

Facilities

The Alyangula Area School and the Alyangula Health Clinic are located in the village .

Alyngula has a police station with 14 police officers who are responsible for around 4,000 people in Angurugu , Umbakumba , Milyakburra and Numbulwar . Police reach Milyaburra, a settlement on Bickerton Island , by either airplanes or boats. Numbulwar on mainland Australia is visited on three days a month. With the exception of Alyangula, Umbakumba and various areas on the east coast of Groote Eylandt, there is a ban on alcohol, which is monitored by the police.

The Alyngula area is home to Dugong Beach Resort and a golf course.
