action

Yana's husband has terminal cancer , no longer wants to live, but is kept alive by device medicine . Dr. Daniel is actually a veterinarian and has medical knowledge of how to let patients die painlessly. He does not want to make himself a criminal offense by lending a hand himself. So Yehezkel constructed a machine that, triggered by the patient, injected the deadly substances into the patient's circulation . In order not to leave any evidence at the bedside of the dying person, Yana consecrated Dr. Daniel, Yehezkel and his wife Levana also recruited an old former police officer. They all wear gloves at the bedside. Yana's husband dies peacefully.

Various mourners heard about Yehezkel's device at the funeral of Yana’s husband. One of them stubbornly pursues Yehezkel so that he can use this machine to euthanize his terminally ill wife. But Yehezkel wants to take care of his own wife Levana, who is slowly sinking into dementia . Finally he lets himself be persuaded. The other woman dies in her husband's arms.

Levana shows increasingly clear signs of dementia. She forgets recipes, puts her handbag in the fridge and lets cookies burn in the oven. One morning she forgets to put on clothes and goes to breakfast naked. When she notices it, she no longer wants to go in public. Nevertheless, Yehezkel is able to persuade her to take an evening walk. When they enter a greenhouse , their friends are sitting there - all stark naked. An exuberant celebration follows, which only ends with the appearance of a security guard.

Zelda has left the nursing home and lives on a kibbutz with her nephew. She doesn't want to go on living either. Without a yehezkel, the machine is brought to the kibbutz. When Zelda presses the switch on Yehezkel's machine, the power goes out. Yehezkel is brought in. When the light goes out a second time, Zelda dies. In the pouring rain, the kibbutz members sing a funeral song for Zelda.

Given her dementia, Levana wants to kill herself with pills. Yehezkel can save her one more time. In his desperation, he destroys the machine. But Levana asks him to let her go. So Yehezkel reaches for the welding machine again . In the presence of her friends, Levana says goodbye to her daughter and granddaughter with a video message.

Reviews

“With a lot of black humor, the comedy, conceived for a large audience, takes up current taboo topics in the area of age, dementia, frailty and a self-determined end. In the last third, the film lets go of all amusement and becomes bitterly serious. With a philosophical foundation, it succeeds in walking the tightrope of a film about death that celebrates life and thus freedom.
