The Berkuti ( Russian Беркуты , German  Golden Eagle ) are the helicopter aerobatic team of the Russian Air Force . The three teams Berkuti, Russian Knights and Strischi are now one of the standard team's MAKS air shows and the victory parades in Moscow .

history

The Berkuti were founded as a helicopter aerobatic team in 1992 in order to demonstrate to a broad public the maneuvers developed from the experiences of the Afghanistan war at the Combat Training Center for Army Aviators (ZBP). The initially seven Mi-24s used were painted in the usual camouflage colors, with the exception of the command machine, which was extensively black and provided with the Russian national colors white, blue and red on the stern , but had one - starting at the height of the cockpit Lightning-shaped stripes in the national colors running along the entire length of the body. On the starboard side of the cockpit was the team emblem, which was formed from an eagle with rockets in its claws and the Cyrillic abbreviation ЦБП (for ZBP). The team also used Mi-24s for demonstrations, which had no special marking or paintwork.

One pilot managed to get to safety injured, the other was killed. The reason given was a failure in the hydraulics and the entire Mi-28 fleet was temporarily shut down.
