The August 1st or 81st Aerobatics Team ( Chinese 八一 飞行 表演 队 , Pinyin Bāyī Fēixíng Biǎoyǎn Duì ) is the aerobatic demonstration team of the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China. It was named after the day the People's Liberation Army was founded on August 1, 1927. Established in 1962, it has held more than 500 screenings over the years for delegations from 166 countries and regions in China . Its first performance abroad in August 2013 was during the Russian air show MAKS .

The August 1st aerobatic team (Ba Yi aerobatic team) was initially equipped with Shenyang JJ-5 jet trainers, a Chinese version of the Soviet MiG-17 , which was replaced by the newer Chengdu J-7 EB. These in turn were replaced in 2001 by the newer Chengdu J-7GB. The modern Chengdu J-10 multi- role fighter has been in use since May 2009 . There are about eight aircraft in the fleet, but only six are used for demonstrations at the airshows. The color of the additional tanks is matched to the paintwork of the demonstration aircraft.
Home base
The team is stationed at Yangcun Air Force Base (Meichong) near Tianjin , home of the PLA-AF 24th Fighter Division.

Accidents
- June 1997 - Three planes crashed during training in Tianjin .
- September 15, 1998 - A plane crash near the airport on Chongming Island near Shanghai.
- July 14, 2009 - Formation number 3 aircraft, a J-7 GB, crashed at Yang Cun Airbase during a training exercise.
- November 12, 2016 - Pilot Yu Xu, one of only four women allowed to fly a J-10 aircraft in China, dies when her parachute hits another squadron aircraft during flight training in Hebei Province after an emergency exit . Your copilot survived.
