The Super Puma Display Team is the helicopter aerobatic team of the AS332M1 Super Puma or AS532UL Cougar of the Swiss Air Force .

Great Puma Display Team

Since the introduction of the Super Puma in 1989, a flight program has been demonstrated under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Charly Bachmann to show the population the capabilities of this transport helicopter. It was not until 16 years later in 2005 that the Super Puma Display Team received its official demonstration team status, which is equal to that of the Patrouille Suisse , PC-7 Team and F / A-18 Hornet Solo Display . The Super Puma Display Team conducts the flight skills and flight performance of an AS332M1 on various occasions at home and abroadSuper Puma or AS532UL Cougar before. Only the flight characteristics are demonstrated. The demonstration of external cargo transport, troop deployment, fire fighting and rescue operations is not part of it. The advantage of the Super Puma Display Team compared to the flight demonstrations with fixed-wing aircraft is that the show can be presented even when it is cloudy and the team including the helicopter are on the ground before and after the demonstration and the visitors can get in touch. For the Axalp air demonstration , the Super Puma Display Team uses a cougar each, which opens the demonstration by firing infrared decoys . All pilots of the Super Puma Display Team are professional military pilots who fly daily missions with the Super Pumas, Cougar and the Eurocopter EC635 . The size of the team means that, if necessary, the Super Puma Display Team can present a demonstration at two different locations at the same time (e.g. at the RIAT in Great Britain and e.g. in Dübendorf). You are also on search and rescue flights with the helicopters of the Swiss Air Force equipped with a FLIR . The home base of the Super Puma Display Team is the Dübendorf military airfield, where training takes place (apart from local training at a demonstration location the day before the show). At large air shows such as the RIAT or Air14 , the Super Puma Display Team often flies in the opening of the flight demonstration with the PC-7 Team, the Patrouille Suisse or the Hornet Solo Display in a joint overflight formation.
