Simon's Sircus was an aerobatic display team consisting of six De Havilland DH.110 Sea Vixen FAW2 aircraft from the 892 Naval Air Squadron of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm . The team was formed in the summer of 1968 and named after the unit's then commander, Lt. Cdr. Named Simon Idiens RN.
Simon's Circus was founded in April 1968 by Lt. Cdr. Idiens of the 892 Squadron established upon disembarkation of the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes . RNAS Yeovilton was the home base of Simon's Circus, who performed at numerous Royal Air Force airshows and at Royal Navy Air Stations. The highlight was the performances at the Farnborough International Airshow in September 1968. The main element of the team's demonstration began with a banked turn and then a loop in “Broad Arrow” formation, changing to “Box Six” during the second maneuver. This was flown through a barrel roll in "long arrow" formation, a loop in "spearhead" and finally a "burst bomb" as the finale. It should be noted that the Sea Vixen were more than five times heavier than the Folland Gnat of the Red Arrows , the aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force. Following the conclusion of the Farnborough International Airshow, Simon's Circus and the 892 Squadron were officially disbanded.
