The Air Demonstration Squadron (Portuguese: Esquadrão de demonstração Aérea ), popularly known as the Smoke Squadron (Portuguese: Esquadrilha da Fumaça , English : Smoke Staffel) is the aerobatic team of the Brazilian Air Force . The first demonstration was on May 14, 1952, over Copacabana Beach , then on a North American T-6 . The team used the T-6 from its inception until 1968 and then switched to the French Aérospatiale (Fouga) CM.170-2 Super-Magister , called T-24 in the FAB service. However, this model proved to be unsuitable for the Brazilian conditions, so that the T-6 was used again from 1972. This was used until 1977.
The Esquadrão de demonstração Aérea was dissolved in 1977, but reactivated on December 8, 1983 with N621 Universal from Neiva . These were soon replaced by the then new Embraer EMB 312 Tucano turboprop trainer. At first the aircraft were bright red in color, which was later replaced by the national colors blue, green and yellow, which are still used today. From 2012 to 2014 the Tucano was replaced by the Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano .
