The Blue Eagles are an aerobatic team of the Army Air Corps , the military aviators of the British Army . You are one of the few teams that demonstrate helicopter aerobatics.

history

The Blue Eagles were founded in 1968 in Middle Wallop , an Army Air Corps base in Hampshire . At the beginning, the squadron flew the Bell 47 . For cost reasons, the Blue Eagles were disbanded shortly after their first major appearances in 1974. Then some volunteers continued the squadron in their free time, but on army machines. The team changed names several times over the years, including Silver Eagles and Army Eagles . In 1994 they won the prestigious Wilkinson Sword under the former name for the best aerobatic performance by a participant from the United Kingdom at the Royal International Air Tattoo .

Only in 1996 were the pilots allowed to use the traditional name Blue Eagles again. The squadron today consists of four Aérospatiale SA 341/342 and one Westland Lynx . From the 2009 season from Apache AH1 and Lynx AH7 .
