The Patrulla Águila (Eagle Patrol) is the aerobatic team of the Spanish Air Force .

history

In 1956, the Spanish Air Force's first aerobatic team was founded, when it flew the North American F-86F Saber . The four machines received no separate paint or markings. First appearances took place in 1956 in Rome , among other places . The last known appearance of the group called Ascua took place in 1962 on the German Spangdahlem Air Base .

It was not until July 4, 1985 that Patrulla Águila was founded. These are now stationed at the San Javier Air Force Base near La Manga del Mar Menor and fly seven Spanish CASA C 101 Aviojet from there . The only difference between the machines is the paintwork and the smoke system common for aerobatics, and they can be converted for combat missions.

On August 28, 1988 the "Adlerpatrouille" performed for the last time in Germany . It was the flight day at the Nörvenich air base , which coincided with the Ramstein flight conference. It was not until the ILA 2018 that the Spanish national relay came to Germany again. The Patrulla Águila entered u. a. also at Air04 2004 and at the 100th anniversary of the Swiss Air Force Air14 at the Payerne military airfield .

The Patrulla Águila squadron consists of seven pilots, a commander and five reservists. Every pilot must be able to prove at least 1000 hours of flight time on fighters or fighter bombers, of which at least 300 hours on jet aircraft. Those who are accepted start as reservists and, if they have proven themselves, move up to the regular team in the second year. Membership generally lasts three years. Their home base is Murcia-San Javier Airport .

The formations are demonstrated in association with six machines and a solo pilot. The season made relatively few appearances outside of Spain during the season. The landing of all seven machines in close association at the end of the show is one of the trademarks.

An online magazine with current reports and activities of Patrulla Águila has been published since 2006. So far 41 articles have been published.
