The Jupiter-Aerobatic Team is the aerobatic team of the Indonesian Air Force . The aerobatics team flies six KAI KT-1 Wongbee aircraft in red and white colors. The team is led by Skadik (Skadron Pendidikan / Training Squadron) 102, at Adisucipto Airport, Yogyakarta. The Jupiter Team planes are equipped with white smoke generators. The pilots of the "Jupiter-Aerobatic Team (JAT)" are all flight instructors. The team is named "Jupiter" after the Indonesian Air Force callsign for the flight instructors.

history

In 1996 a new aerobatic team was formed for the Indonesian Air Force and equipped with eight BAE Hawk Mk53 from the Skadik 103. This team was named "Jupiter" and had its first demonstration on September 23, 1997. In 2001 the team was renamed "Jupiter Blue" after merging with the "Elang Biru" team. The team was disbanded in the late 1990s due to the Asian crisis . The "Jupiter-Aerobatic Team" (JAT) was newly formed in 2008 with 4 Korean Aerospace Industries KAI KT-1 B Wongbee trainers. The first public appearance of this new team was on July 4th, 2008 in Yogyakarta and their second show was in Jakarta in November 2008. In 2010, after two years of stagnation, the Jupiter-Aerobatic Team started a training program with the help of the Australian Roulette Display Team. In September 2010, two Jupiter-Aerobatic Team pilots were sent to Australia to observe and gain practice by flying maneuvers with the roulette at their home base in East Sale, Victoria, Australia. On November 8, 2010, the roulettes flew at Halim Air Force Base in Jakarta, where the six Jupiter-Aerobatic Team pilots had the opportunity to fly in the back seat of the "Roulette" Pilatus PC-9 during training .

In 2011, the Jupiter Aerobatic Team increased to six aircraft and was given a new red and white paint scheme based on the colors of the Indonesian flag. The first demonstration of this new formation of six Z was on March 16, 2011 in Yogyakarta. Her second airshow was in Jakarta on April 9th. The third was back in Yogyakarta on April 17, 2011.

Incidents

On March 15, 2015, during a training session for the LIMA 15 Airshow, two aircraft (Tail No. 5 and No. 6) collided and their wings separated in the air. All four crew members were able to save themselves with the ejection seats and suffered only minor injuries. One of the planes crashed into a nearby house and set it on fire, while the other crashed into an empty field. There were no injuries on the floor, the house was empty at the time of the accident. The Indonesian First Force Marshal Indra Yadi made the decision to remove the JAT from the flight display of the LIMA 15.
