Amalia Brugnoli-Samengo (born August 11, 1802 in Milan , † 1892) was an Italian dancer.

Life

Amalia Brugnoli was born in Milan as the daughter of a dancer couple . From 1813 she attended the La Scala ballet school . Here she already gained stage experience, as the students of the ballet school were used in opera and ballet performances. Under the direction of Louis Henry she became prima ballerina at the Teatro Sant 'Agostino in Genoa . Guest performances in Europe soon made her one of the most admired dancers of her time. 1823-28 and 1831 she was a member of the Vienna Court Opera Ballet. In 1823 she danced, with Armand Vestris as a partner, in the ballet "The Fairy and the Knight", in which she practiced toe dance for the first time in the history of ballet . It was not until 1832 that Maria Taglioni brought this technique to fruition with the ballet “ La Sylphide ”. After returning to Italy, Carlo Blasis was her partner. In 1828 she married the first dancer and choreographer of the Teatro San Carlo , Paolo Samengo, in Naples . With this she toured all of Europe. In 1832 the dancers performed at the King's Theater in London , with the critics celebrating their precision and flawlessness in their pointed dance. In 1837/38 she danced “La Sylphide” at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice. That year her stage career ended after the birth of her son Federico.
