Amanda Lourenço Nunes (born May 30, 1988 in Salvador (Bahia) , Brazil ) is a Brazilian MMA fighter with the UFC and currently champion in bantamweight and featherweight .

Life

Amanda Nunes was born on May 30th, 1988 to Sindoval and Ivete Nunes in Salvador (Bahia) . There she grew up with her sister Vanessa Nunes. Nunes started practicing karate at the age of four and began to focus on boxing at the age of 16 . She later practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the black belt Ryan Franco to improve her grappling.

She has been in a relationship with UFC fighter Nina Ansaroff since 2012 .

Career

Amanda Nunes made her MMA debut on March 8, 2008 against Ana Maria in the Prime - MMA Championship 2 . She lost by giving up in the first round.

Before joining the UFC, she made a total of ten fights, of which she won seven.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Amanda Nunes made her UFC debut against the German MMA fighter Sheila Gaff on August 3, 2013 at UFC 163. Sheila had an MMA record of 8-5 at this point . Nunes won the first round after two minutes and eight seconds with a technical knockout through elbows and punches.

Bantamweight champion

On July 9, 2016, Amanda Nunes got her first bantamweight title fight . At the UFC 200 she defeated Miesha Tate with Rear Naked Choke in the first round and became the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion .

She defended her title for the first time against Ronda Rousey . On December 30, 2016, Nunes won UFC 207 against the American with a technical knockout through punches.

At UFC 215 on September 9, 2017, Amanda Nunes fought Valentina Shevchenko. The fight lasted a full five rounds. In the end, Nunes won through a split point decision and was able to defend her title.

On May 12, 2018 Nunes defended her bantamweight title again. At UFC 224 , she defeated her opponent Raquel Pennington in the fifth round with a technical knockout through elbows and punches. The fight took place in her native Brazil .

Amanda Nunes defended her title for the fourth time against the American Holly Holm . On July 6, 2019, the Brazilian won at UFC 239 against the former boxer in the first round after four minutes and ten seconds by a technical knockout with a kick to the head and punches.

Featherweight champion

At UFC 232 on December 29, 2018, Amanda Nunes won against her compatriot Christiane "Cyborg" Justino . This was by then the reigning UFC Women's Featherweight Champion and had an MMA record of 20-1. After 51 seconds in the first round, Nunes knocked out her experienced opponent with one blow and became the new title holder. The victory made her the first female double champion in UFC history .
