Sheila Gaff ("The German Tank"; born December 29, 1989 in Bad Hersfeld ) is a German martial artist ( MMA fighter) in the straw weight class . Her style is aimed at ending her struggles early. It got its fight name from MMA pioneer Andreas Stockmann .

Mixed martial arts career

Gaff was born in Bad Hersfeld as the daughter of a karate teacher from Iraq and a former karate teacher from Germany. She started her MMA career under the guidance of MMA fighter and trainer Andre Balschmieter, who trained her in kickboxing and MMA. At first she trained and worked at the Max Pro MMA Academy in Eschwege . In mid-2013 Gaff switched to MMA Spirit in Frankfurt am Main . She made her MMA debut in 2006 against Annett Sonntag , which she won through TKO in the first round. Another fight against Majanka Lathouwers followed, but ended in a submission defeat due to the weight difference of almost 10 kg. The next fight against Tanja Loureiro was counted as a draw despite the much more active part of Gaff. This was followed by six consecutive wins against Lydia Myska , Katharina Albinus , Tania Loureiro , Dalia Grakulskyte , Alexandra Buch and Lena Buytendijk . As part of the Upcoming Glory 7 event of the Dutch organizer Glory World Series in March 2010, it was stopped by Romy Ruyssen via Armbar in the first round. His career then moved on to the M-1 in 2010. There she fought against Cindy Dandois and won the first two rounds on the scoreboard. In the third, Gaff was disqualified for an illegal knee kick to the head. In December 2010 she fought against Milana Dudieva in Russia. After three hard-fought laps, Dudieva was awarded the victory due to a controversial decision on points. Because of the great weight advantages of her opponents in the last fights, Gaff then switched to the weight class - 57 kg and got there in February 2011 at The Zone FC - Inferno with the European champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Hanna Sillen from Sweden. The fight lasted 8 seconds and was won by Gaff by knockout.

Outside the ring, Gaff, together with her trainer Andre Balschmieter, trains prospective MMA trainers in an online program they have developed and is very committed to the spread of MMA sport in Germany. In her martial arts school Pyranha MMA in Offenbach , she trains children, young people and adults. Together with Jasminka Cive , she has been organizing MMA seminars in German-speaking countries since May 2013.

Cage Warriors

After her win against Hanna Sillen, Gaff got the opportunity to play at Cage Warriors. There she faced Aisling Daly from Ireland on April 24, 2011. She defeated Daly after 1:35 minutes in the first round by TKO.

Sheila Gaff was then planning to fight Angela Hayes at Cage Warriors - Fight Night 2. Due to a short-term illness, however, she had to be replaced by Aisling Daly. Next, Gaff battled the first semi-final of a four-women tournament at Cage Warriors - Fight Night 4 against Jennifer Maia of the Chute Boxe team to crown the next Cage Warriors women's world champion. She defeated Maia after a few seconds by knockout. Gaff was supposed to face Rosi Sexton from England in the final on October 27, 2012 in Wales to crown the winner of the tournament and the reigning champion. Because of Sheila Gaff's illness, the fight had to be canceled.

Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC

On March 1, 2013, it was announced that Sheila Gaff had signed a contract for four fights at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A few days later, Gaff's commitment was confirmed by the UFC. Sheila Gaff is the first German fighter in the UFC. The 23-year-old flyweight from Eschwege will compete in the UFC's only women's class, the bantamweight up to 61 kilograms. Sheila Gaff lost her debut on April 27 at UFC 159 in Newark (New Jersey) USA to Sara McMann , an Olympic silver medalist (2004) in freestyle wrestling , who was unbeaten in six MMA bouts to date . Her next assignment was on August 3, 2013 at UFC 163 in Rio de Janeiro . There she had to admit defeat to the Brazilian Amanda Nunes. On August 12, 2013, it was announced that the UFC had released her from the contract.

Xtreme Fighting Championships - XFC

In mid-April 2015 Gaff signed a contract for 6 fights at the US organization Xtreme Fighting Championships . There she will fight in the straw weight (-52 kg). She made her debut fight on September 19, 2015 at XFCi 11 in Sao Paulo, Brazil against Antonia Silvaneide. Gaff won in round 1 by giving up.
