Amar Sindhu ( Sindhi : امر سنڌو) (born August 28, 1968 in Dodo Khan Leghari near Mirpur Khas as Salma Leghari Baloch) is a Pakistani author , professor and human rights activist who writes her texts in the Sindhi language.

life and work

Amar Sindhu is a professor at Sindh University in Jamshoro . She holds the chair for philosophy there. She is considered one of the leading feminists in Sindh Province and is an active member of the Women Action Forum . In addition to women, their social commitment applies to all underprivileged groups. Amar Sindhu sees herself as a socialist . Adrish magazine , of which she is co-editor, prints texts on political, social and cultural issues.

Amar Sindhu has already been assaulted in Pakistan for her work for human rights. On July 10, 2012, she was injured when her car was shot at.

In her poetic writing, too, Amar Sindhu is considered revolutionary and resistant. Her fellow writer Fehmida Riaz described her poems as hope for young people.

In Germany, Amar Sindhu was best known for her participation in the Poets translating Poets project of the Goethe Institute . In this context, poems by her were translated into German by Daniela Danz . Both poets appeared at the Berlin Poetry Festival in June 2016 and presented the texts together at a reading. During her reading tour through Germany as part of the project, Amar Sindhu also appeared in the Lyrik Kabinett in Munich and in the rooms of the Theaterwerkstatt Heidelberg .

Amar Sindhu writes a column for the English-language daily newspaper Dawn in Pakistan and runs a literary café in Hyderabad .
