Ambernath or Ambarnath ( Marathi : अंबरनाथ ) is a city in the greater Mumbai area in the Indian state of Maharashtra .
location
Ambernath is about 45 km (driving distance) northeast of the center of Mumbai, but can also be easily reached from there by suburban trains via Thane . The city is about 35 to 65 m above sea level. d. M.

Almost 79% of the mostly immigrant inhabitants are Hindus , approx. 10% are Muslims , approx. 5% are Buddhists and almost 5% are Christians ; the other religious communities such as Jains and Sikhs form fringe groups.

Ambernath is a suburb of Mumbai - divided in two by the railway line; since the second half of the 20th century, craftsmen, traders, service providers and smaller industrial companies have settled here.
history
One place probably already existed at the time the temple was founded; the temple itself seems to have escaped the destructive rage of Islamic armies, because it is rare to find a well-preserved temple in this region of India. The place experienced a new boom under the British and then especially after Indian independence in 1947.
Attractions
The only attraction of the city is the medieval temple ( mandir ) from the year 1060 , consecrated to the Hindu god Shiva as the "Lord of Heaven" ( ambarnath ). It rests to protect against wild animals and invading water (especially in the monsoon season ) on a raised substructure; its assembly hall ( mandapa ) is accessible from three sides, but a Nandi bull rests only in front of the main entrance . The stepped roof rises to the rear, but the planned Shikhara tower over the cella ( garbhagriha ) was never completed. The outer walls of the temple are decorated with figures (gods, beautiful girls, etc.) but also with ornaments - a flat piece of wall is nowhere visible. In the cella there is a Shiva lingam enclosed by a yoni .
