Randall's partner goby ( Amblyeleotris randalli ) is a species native to tropical reefs of the Pacific Ocean at depths of 25 to 50 meters. The additional species randalli refers to the American ichthyologist John Ernest Randall .

features

This fish reaches a maximum standard length of 12 centimeters. The head is moderately flattened on the side and higher than it is wide, the body is flattened on the side. The mouth is terminal. The teeth sit in 4 rows on the upper jaw and 4 to 5 rows on the lower jaw. All teeth are conical and curved. Ploughshare (vomer) and palatine bone (os palatinum) are edentulous. Along the body there are 54 to 63 small scales in a row, towards the front round scales (cycloid scales), towards the end of the body comb scales (ctenoid scales). The comb scales extend in a wedge shape to a point below the beginning of the second dorsal fin to the middle of the first dorsal fin. The breast base and breast are covered with small round scales, the belly with very small round scales and the approach of the tail fin with comb scales. The sides of the head and the center of the neck are bare. The first dorsal fin (dorsal) is higher than body height and is supported by 6 hard rays, the second, third and fourth rays are the longest and about the same length. The second dorsal fin and the anal fin (anal) supported by 1 hard ray and 12 soft rays. The two tips of the caudal fin are asymmetrical, the upper rays are longer than the lower. The caudal fin is usually longer than the head.

The body color is white, seven narrow orange-colored horizontal stripes run over the head and body. The large, flag-like first dorsal bears a conspicuous, light-rimmed black spot and a multitude of smaller, white spots.

distribution

The distribution area in the western Pacific extends from the Moluccas to the Solomon Islands , north to the Ryūkyū Islands and south to the northern Great Barrier Reef and Palau ( Micronesia ).

Way of life

Amblyeleotris randalli lives in coral reefs with clear water in places with coral sand. Like some other species in different genera of the family of gobies living (Gobiidae) Amblyeleotris randalli usually in a community with a snapping shrimp (Alpheidae) in a cave made of crushed coral. According to the observations of the first description , Amblyeleotris randalli feeds on organisms that are in the sand that the popcorn deposits when digging the cave, but the species also searches for food away from the burrow.

Aquaristics

In the aquarium, Amblyeleotris randalli can be used as a symbiotic base together with a popcorn such as B. Alpheus bellulus or Alpheus ochrostiatus are kept.
