Ambroise Villard (born March 23, 1841 in Châtel-Saint-Denis ; died October 7, 1903 in Farvagny-le-Grand ) was a Swiss Catholic clergyman who became known as a self-taught architect of historic church buildings in the canton of Friborg .

Ambroise Villard was ordained a priest in 1864 after attending the seminary in Freiburg. In 1864 he became vicar in Meyrin , in 1865 of Assens . In 1865 he was pastor of Crésuz , in 1867 of La Chaux-de-Fonds and from 1869 until his death pastor of Farvagny-le-Grand. According to the notion that was common in the age of historicism that certain building tasks required typical styles, the priest, who planned a number of churches and chapels without training, considered the Gothic and Romanesque styles to be the perfection of Christian expression.
