Ambros scaly
Ambros Schupp (born 1840 in Montabaur ; died 1914 in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ) was a German-Brazilian Catholic priest , educator and writer from the Jesuit order , who went to Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil in 1874. Schupp mastered the languages Latin, Portuguese, Spanish and German dialects, which were best known in the German-speaking regions of southern Brazil (especially the Riograndenser Hunsrückisch ). In Brazil he worked in different posts in different places.
He is the author of various writings, with his work on the Mucker movement being particularly noteworthy. Most of his works, mainly assigned to children's and youth literature, were published by the Bonifacius printing house in Paderborn , often reprinted several times.
The "Mucker"
His book Die "Mucker". Life of the German colonies of Brazil, in the presence (Paderborn, 1900) not only provides a lot of interesting information about the event of the Mucker Uprising ( Revolta dos Muckers ) and its main characters (see Jacqueline Maurer ) but also material from the daily life of the time and the local social context versus non-conforming religious thinking and acting. Adilson Schultz rates it in the annotated bibliography on the Muckern as one-sided and inquisitorial.
