Ant (heraldic animal)

The ant is a very rare heraldic animal in heraldry .

It stands as a symbol of diligence and prudence. It is estimated that there are fewer than ten coats of arms in Europe with an ant as a coat of arms . Their representation is limited to the plan view of an elongated animal with six legs. The front pair of legs, like the antennae, are directed forward. The whole animal is tinged in one color, the legs in black. Legend has it that an ants plague in the coat of arms of Brekendorf favored the use of the heraldic animal. In the coat of arms of Merkendorf (Steiermark) who is board -round occupied. The coat of arms of the Counts of Saint-Quentin also has an ant as a heraldic animal. The municipality of Marwitz (Oberkrämer) has put its coat of arms with four ants in the front flank by stake .
