Junior American Football Championship 2013

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013 American Football Junior Championships took place from 23 to 25 August 2013 in Cologne and Düsseldorf . In contrast to the previous tournaments, the European Junior Championships 2013 took place on a much smaller scale without a group stage. Only the games from the semi-finals were played in the form of a tournament. Originally, the tournament in Russia should take place as a finals with six teams. However, after the meteor strike in Chelyabinsk , the Russian organizer withdrew.

qualification

A total of 13 teams registered for the 2013 European Junior Championship. The two finalists of the 2011 tournament, Austria and France , as well as host Russia , had already secured a place for the starting field of the final round. The remaining three places in the final round should be played in three play-off games. For these games, the remaining four participants in the final round, Sweden , Germany , Denmark and Spain , as well as the team from Finland were set. The other teams had to play the remaining place in a tournament in Rome.

Match report

After Russia withdrew as host and the associated reduction in the field of participants from four to six teams, the qualification mode had to be adjusted. The remaining play-off game between Sweden and the Netherlands remained, but the winner of that game had to play a quarter-final against Denmark. A second quarter-final match was scheduled between France and Russia. Defending champions Austria and the new hosts Germany kept their places in the final round.
