The Ameropa's GmbH is a German tour operator , based in Bad Homburg , which specializes mainly on short trips in Germany and its neighboring countries, rail travel and on club Special Tours. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of DB Fernverkehr AG . The name is an invented word, from the terms Ame America and Eu rope composed.

history

Ameropa was founded on November 1st, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main as a tour operator exclusively for guests from AME rica to Eu ROPA . The most important target group were the members of the US armed forces in Germany and the increasing number of tourists from the USA.

With the slow onset of the economic miracle , domestic demand for vacation travel also began to grow. In 1953 Ameropa therefore expanded its catalog to include destinations in the classic holiday regions of Germany, Austria , Switzerland and Italy and opened them up to German citizens. For these holiday destinations, Ameropa pursues the concept of package tours with exclusively marketed tourist trains with couchette and sleeping cars .

This specialization in rail travel made Ameropa an ideal addition to what was then the Deutsche Bundesbahn . In 1973, Deutsche Verkehrs-Kredit-Bank AG, today's DVB Bank AG , took over all of the business shares and consistently marketed the travel offers in the federal railway's own travel agencies of the German travel agency (DER) , the official Bavarian travel agency and the travel agency Rominger GmbH - Württemberg travel agency as well as in the later travel centers.

With the establishment of Deutsche Bahn AG , the shares of the wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bundesbahn were transferred to the new parent company.

In 2001, Ameropa secured the Frantour brand for the German market, which had positioned itself as a Paris and France specialist. Finally, in 2003, she expanded sales to include Austria.

On January 23, 2020 it was announced that Deutsche Bahn had sold Ameropa to the private equity company Liberta Partners Opportunities GmbH (so-called leveraged buy-out ); the change in shareholders should take place on February 3, 2020.
