Located in the municipality of Amfipoli and in the Serres regional unit

Amfipoli ( Greek Δημοτική Ενότητα Αμφίπολης ) has been a municipality since January 1, 2011 in the municipality of the same name Amfipoli in the southeast of the Serres regional district . Before the Kallikratis reform , Amfipoli was an independent municipality from 1997 to 2010 around the actual village of Amfipoli . The seat of the former municipality was the place Paleokomi .

There are numerous archaeological sites within the parish. The best known is the ancient city of Amphipolis after which the municipality was named. At Mesolakkia, an important prehistoric settlement was found on hill 133 and a little further east the Kasta tomb. At the mouth of the Strymon was the ancient port city of Eion and the Byzantine city of Chrysoupolis . On the western bank of the river at Nea Kerdylia stands the Lion of Amphipolis and at Sykia two Macedonian graves were found. These probably belonged to the ancient colony of Argilos . The ancient settlement of Kerdylion lay north in the Kerdyllia Mountains .
