Aminollah Hossein

Aminollah (André) Hossein (born February 2, 1905 in Samarkand , † August 9, 1983 in Paris ) was a French composer of neo-romantic music and a soloist on the lute Târ .

His mother was a Persian , his father was an Azerbaijani merchant, descended from immigrants from the Caucasus to Persia . Aminollah Hossein lived in Persia for a few years, then left the country to study.

education

Aminollah Hossein studied in Russia and Germany, where he attended the Württemberg University of Music in Stuttgart and from 1934 to 1937 the University of Music in Berlin . He was a student of composers and pianists such as Noël Gallon , Artur Schnabel and Alfred Cortot . He also took private lessons with Paul Antoine Vidal at the Conservatory in Paris . He stayed in Paris for the rest of his life.

Works

In 1935 he wrote his first ballet against the light . He wrote numerous pieces for piano named after Persian themes, including some etudes . Aminollah's love for his homeland is evident in many of his works, especially the Persepolis Symphony (also known as The Dust of the Forgotten Empire ), which he completed in 1947. In 1951 he also wrote a symphony on poems by Omar Chayyām .

His orchestral works include three piano concertos (No. 1, "Capriccio" (1946), No. 2, (1946), and No. 3, "quasi una fantasia"), two other symphonies, the Symphony of the Sands (1946) and the Arya Symphony (1976), as well as the ballet works Persian Miniatures (1975), Sheherezade (1975), Dance of Esmaralda (1980) and Holidays on the Ice (1982). He also composed film music , mostly for films directed by his son Robert Hossein , the Paris-born director and actor.
