Aminorex is a synthetically produced chemical compound that was marketed under the name Menocil as an appetite suppressant ( anorectic ) in Switzerland in 1965 and in Germany and Austria in 1966. Menocil was withdrawn from the market as early as 1968 after the occurrence of precapillary pulmonary hypertension had been observed, some of which resulted in death.
Aminorex is structurally closely related to 4-methylaminorex . In Germany, Aminorex is a marketable, but not a prescription drug .
Mode of action
Aminorex releases endogenous catecholamine stores and inhibits serotonin recovery .
