Amos Midzi

Amos Bernard Muvengwa Midzi (born July 4, 1952 in Majanga, Chiweshe, Mashonaland Central Province , Southern Rhodesia ; † June 9, 2015 in Beatrice , Harare , Zimbabwe ) was a diplomat and politician from Zimbabwe.

Life

Midzi became ambassador to Cuba in 1987 and remained in this post until 1993. On June 11, 1993 he succeeded Stanislaus Garikai Chigwedere as ambassador to the USA and held this position until he was replaced by Simbi Veke Mubako on November 29, 1999.

In 2002 he was appointed Minister for Energy and Energy Development by President Robert Mugabe in his government and held this ministerial office until 2004. Mike Nyambuya was his successor .

Midzi was most recently Minister of Mines and Mining Development in President Mugabe's government between 2004 and 2009.
