description

Heath and forest in fog
Kniepsand near Wittdün

The LSG Amrum (54 NF-12) comprises the entire island of Amrum without the settlement areas and without the nature reserves (NSG) Amrumer Dünen and Amrum-Odde , around 60 percent of the island's area. All three island communities have a share in the LSG. In addition, most of the upstream Kniepsand , which does not belong administratively to Amrum, is part of the area. The total area is around 1866 hectares; This makes it the largest protected landscape area in the North Friesland district . Landscapes of the Geest are mainly green and arable land, heather and forest, in the north and near Steenodde there are marshland , the Kniepsand is a high sand with primary dunes . Parts of the Kniepsand are not accessible to the public for nature conservation reasons.

The LSG Amrum belongs to 56 percent of the FFH area "Coastal and Dune Landscapes Amrum" and borders on the FFH area "National Park Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea and adjacent coastal areas".

The LSG also borders on the above-mentioned NSG and the NSG North Frisian Wadden Sea , which in turn borders the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park . The Ramsar area "Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea and adjacent coastal areas" includes the entire area around the LSG, in addition to the settlement areas.

history

The LSG was established on October 20, 1982 shortly after the North Frisian Wadden Sea NSG. The other adjacent nature reserves already existed several years earlier. It has been looked after by Öömrang Ferian since it was founded .
