Blackbird fall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Amselfall is a waterfall in Saxon Switzerland , about one kilometer north of the Bastei .

At the 10 m height of the largest slope of the Amselgrund , which is narrowed like a gorge here , the Grünbach forms a broad veil of water that pours over the Amselloch , a collapse cave. The ceiling of this 15 m long cave is formed by sandstone blocks that have fallen from the walls. In the gorge and in the cave, vortex pots and scouring points indicate the meltwater that poured into the Elbe in the older ice ages .

The stream that originally ran almost entirely through the cave (first mentioned in 1548) was led over the cave ceiling to the crash site in the 19th century. The waterfall was also prepared , similar to the Lichtenhain waterfall , by an operable small weir gunners for a torrent-like drainage in order to increase the tourist attractiveness. In 1992, the information center for the Saxon Switzerland National Park was established in the Amselfall building with the inn, located directly by the waterfall .

In 2019, both the hut and the information point had to close due to the risk of rock falls after boulders had fallen on the site in the summer of 2017.

Christian Gottlob Hammer was one of the first painters to capture the beauties of Saxon Switzerland on the so-called “ painter's path ” .

The terrace of the Amselfallbaude and the Amselfall were used in the autumn of 1984 as a filming location for individual scenes in the Police Call 110 episode “One Step Too Far” (working title: “Fear”) on GDR television . Actors involved were u. a. Herbert Köfer and Jürgen Frohriep . Further scenes for this film were made a. in Niederrathen (also on the rock stage there ), Hinterhermsdorf and Stolpen . First broadcast: September 1, 1985.
