Arnstein Office (Saxony)
The Arnstein office was an administrative unit of the part of the County of Mansfeld that fell after the sequestration of the Kursachsen .
history
On April 11, 1557 Count von Mansfeld received by merchants Manlich from Augsburg 300,000 guilders lent with the condition for long to get the copper from the Mansfeld mines for 30 years. The counts were liable for this with all their feudal and allodial assets. Problems soon arose which they tried to fix with a settlement concluded in Vienna on November 17, 1560 . Since the interest payments stipulated therein by the Counts of Mansfeld were soon not made, the Manlichs were gradually appointed to the Arnstein office from March 31, 1565 to November 1572 .
In 1581 the Manlichs 2/3 and in 1590 the last third of the Arnstein office ceded to the Katzböck. Friedrich Ulrich von Knigge took over 8/12 shares of the office from their heirs in 1661. At this point in time he was already describing himself as the owner of the Count's Castle in Arnstein.
In 1670 Freiherr Knigge was given full ownership of the Arnstein office by Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony. After his death in 1683, his sons shared the office of Arnstein. The Brandenburg governor Georg Ernst Freiherr von Knigge received one half with Endorf as his seat, while the Kurland High Court Marshal Maximilian Friedrich Casimir von Knigge received the other half with the three outworks Friedrichrode, Willerode and Pfersdorf.
After the death of Georg Ernst Freiherr von Knigge, his two sons Friedrich Ludwig and Franz Heinrich Freiherren von Knigge received the property. The older son left his share to the younger brother Franz Heinrich, who later became the Landdrost of the Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel. About his widow Charlotta Elisabeth geb. von Münchhausen inherited half of the Arnstein office by the chamberlain Friedrich Wilhelm von Knigge in Meiningen and then his son Georg Wilhelm von Knigge zu Leveste .
This part of the office included u. a. Stangerode and Ulzigerode . The office of Rammelburg partially bordered the office .
After the death of Oberhofmarschall Knigge, the second half of the Arnstein office passed to his son Georg Friedrich Freiherr von Knigge. When he died in 1724, his brother, the Polish constable sergeant Johann Sigismund Freiherr von Knigge, received the claim to Arnstein. As early as 1725 he sold parts of the office, in particular the Vorwerke Friedrichrode and Willerode, to the chief forest master Caspar Heinrich von Ingersleben.
The Arnstein office continued to exist as a complex of goods even after the county of Mansfeld passed into Saxon and Prussian ownership. Even after the abolition of patrimonial jurisdiction (1849), at the request of Baron von Knigge because of his Endorf share in the Arnstein district, the Prussian Minister of Justice decided that the land register should be kept - although the property was actually in two different district courts - uniformly at the district court at the district court Branch in Hettstedt is to be run.
