Office Eversberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eversberg office was an administrative unit in the Meschede district in the Sauerland . The office was created when the city was founded around the middle of the 13th century and existed under different names until the municipal reorganization in 1975.

For the first time a bailiff can be found in Eversberg in 1275. This was a servant of the Count von Arnsberg, who had founded the city. With the purchase of the county of Arnsberg by the Archbishop of Cologne in 1368, the Eversberg office also came into Electoral Cologne ownership and thus became part of the Duchy of Westphalia.

1802 Hesse-Darmstadt annexed the Duchy of Westphalia and with it the Eversberg office. In 1807 it was dissolved with the reorganization of the offices and part of the newly established Meschede Office .

In 1816 the area of the former office with the Duchy of Westphalia fell to Prussia and became part of the province of Westphalia. A few years later, the western part became a separate administrative district based in Meschede. The remainder of the Eversberg office was merged with the Velmede municipality to form the Eversberg municipality in 1826. In 1854 the official seat was moved from Eversberg to Velmede, where the first municipal council met on January 18, 1855. With the entry into force of the rural community order of 1856, the name "Samtgemeinde" changed back to "Amt Eversberg". In the parish of Velmede, the municipalities of Berlar , Gevelinghausen , Halbeswig , Heringhausen , Nuttlar , Ostwig and Velmede were established from 1858 to 1871 . In 1881 the administration of the Eversberg office was moved from Velmede to Bestwig . In 1911 it was renamed Amt Bestwig .
