Half-life

Halbeswig is a district of the municipality of Bestwig . On June 30, 2012 Halbeswig had 21 residents. The place essentially consists of a historic farm and is located at an altitude of 380 m. Administratively the place belongs to Velmede .

In the Middle Ages there was a remote court there . That is why the court is still referred to as the “judges court”. The courtyard still has medieval paving today. The Katharinenkapelle was built in 1866 with an octagonal floor plan. The courtyard and the chapel are under monument protection.

Around 1865, Halbeswig was re-established by hiving off from Velmede. Until it was incorporated into Velmede on April 1, 1938, Halbeswig was an independent municipality.

There is a large diabase quarry in the area of ​​the village .
