Office king

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The office of king was an office of the county of Erbach and in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

function

In the early modern period , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereignty . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers.

history

The king was originally owned by Fulda , but came to the Lorsch Monastery in the High Middle Ages and, as part of the dissolution of the monastery, to Kurmainz . In 1355, the Erbach taverns acquired half of the village of König (and Fürstenau Castle ). 1477 Erbach acquired the rest of the place and the centering high as Kurmainzer fiefdom . The Cent Höchst consisted of König and Fürstengrund. Presumably Kimbach and Vielbrunn also originally belonged to Cent, but at the time of the transition to Erbach these were already assigned to Breuberger Cent Lützelbach. Office and Cent were thus territorial and remained so until the dissolution.

When the county was divided in 1718, the König office came into the possession of the family branch of the Counts of Erbach-Schönberg . In the König office , Erbach law and - on a subsidiary basis - common law were valid , if Erbach law did not provide any regulation for an issue. This particular law was until 1 January 1900 by the same across the whole German Reich current Civil Code replaced

With the Rhine Confederation Act in 1806, the county of Erbach became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and here the province of Starkenburg . However, the Count of Erbach-Schönberg continued to exercise sovereign rights in the area he had previously ruled, the state monopoly of force was shared here.

Between 1820 and 1822 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy. With it, jurisdiction and administration were separated at the lower level . District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction. The office of König was dissolved in 1822. The administrative district of Breuberg took over the administration , the jurisdiction was carried out by the regional court in Höchst .

scope
